3. Positive Friday

On the 29th of December 1881, at the age of 28, Vincent Van Gogh wrote a letter to Theo Van Gogh. In this letter he explains that he has gone too far with a risk he has taken and that there is no going back now. He seems calm because, although it is a tricky situation there is nothing he can do but to continue along the path he has chosen. He then follows on with what it is now one of his most famous and inspirational quotes:

"What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?"

According to the dictionary courage is "the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain, etc., without fear; bravery." whilst this is of course correct, I believe courage to be so much more.

Courage is a bold act of self belief and will, it is usually the tough road to take at a crossroads and requires an element of risk. For me the feeling of courage evokes fear, nervousness, excitement, self belief, stubbornness and bravery. At times courage can be a small, simple act of doing the right thing in a difficult situation.

Courage is not about being fearless, it is about deciding what you want, and stubbornly going for it having faith that you can do it.

Sometimes the only thing we are missing is courage, so as it's Positive Friday here's a pot of courage for all. What will you do with it?
