Dairy Free Brownie - Fig Chocolate Brownie - Plant Based Brownie
A Dariy Free Brownie you say Peta? A Fig Chocolate Brownie that actually tastes good?! Surely Not? Oooooooh yes my friends, this plant based brownie is SO good. It's really simple to make, and believe it or not has a very special secret ingredient; a cup of black tea.
Now I must admit this isn't the first Plant Based Brownie I have ever made, I've tried the beetroot and Deliciously Ella's sweet potato variations, but have never quite been sold on the consistency. I must admit that this recipe does compete with my Plant Based Chocolate Orange Brownie Recipe - which is awesome. But this has a different taste to it, and is just as good.
My other Plant Based Chocolate Orange Brownie is much much much sweeter, but does use honey which this recipe and the chocolate orange brownie recipe above do not.
Both dairy free and refined sugar free, the sweetness comes from the figs as well as the tablespoon of unrefined cane sugar. It's not quite as sweet as a normal brownie, but it really does the job when you're in the mood for a chocolatey treat. Particularly on a Sunday morning whilst watching netflix in bed and having all of the cat cuddles... Not that I have done that or anything. (I so did that last Sunday, it was wonderful.)
If you would like to add a chocolate sauce to the top of your plant based brownie when serving, just mix a little pure cacao powder and honey together, heat it slightly and tadaaaa. Amazing yumminess with every bite.
Serves 12-16 depending on your portion sizes.
Dairy Free Brownie Ingredients:
- 20 figs
- 1 tsp of ground cinnamon
- 1 tbsp of unrefined cane sugar
- 2 cups of oats
- 2 handfuls of walnuts
- 6 tbsp of cacao powder
- 2 tbsp of olive oil
- 1 cup of black tea
Plant Based Brownie Method:
- Pre-heat oven to 220'c.
- Scoop the inside out of 20 figs, pop this in a small saucepan with a little bit of water to cover the bottom.
- Add 1 tsp of cinnamon and 1 tbsp of unrefined cane sugar. Bring to the boil and simmer for 5 minutes.
- In a food processor add 2 cups of oats, 2 handfuls of walnuts, 6 tbsp of cacao powder, 2 tbsp of olive oil and mix.
- Add the fig mixture, be careful as it's hot! Mix again.
- Now add the cup of tea and mix.
- Spoon the mixture onto greaseproof paper in a baking tray.
- Bake for around 30 minutes or until ready.
