Sangria is THE Summer drink, just the smell brings back memories fit to burst of laughter, sunshine, swimming pools and karaoke. Sangria and karaoke go hand in hand. It's the drink that is made at every family get together I go to, the cocktail served at every party I throw and the sweet delicious beverage that accompanies weekends of Summer fun. I was shown how to make sangria by an Argentinian friend long ago, the most important part she said, was to leave the fruit to soak in brandy and sugar overnight. I'm not able to consume white refined sugar so I created my own little sangria recipe that tastes just as good.
- 2 Lemons
- 6 Oranges
- 1 Handful of sultanas
- 5 Tbsp of honey
- 2 Shots of brandy
- 1 Bottle of red wine
You will need a large airtight jug or bottle. I usually use a big empty water bottle. Cut up 2 lemons and 2 oranges and place into an empty bottle. In a food blender mix the sultanas, brandy and honey with a drop of water. Add this to the fruit and leave overnight. Shake every few hours if possible.
The following day add the juice of four oranges and the bottle of wine. Shake well and refrigerate. If you would like it weaker add more orange juice.
