Stripey Smoothie Bowl
I love spending time on making breakfast, it's by far my favorite meal of the day; however there are mornings where you just don't have time to flounce around the kitchen like a Michelin star chef using every spoon, pot and pan available. (That's just about every morning except Sundays for me.)
I know I drive everyone crazy with my whole "breakfasts are the most important meal of the day" rant that I project on all friends and family members but it really is. It's a great way to kick start your metabolism nice and early, giving your body the much needed energy required for a busy day.
Smoothie bowls are one of my specialities especially as we head into summer. I've found that I am straying away from scrumptious porridge that seers the tip of your tongue and burns the roof of your mouth if you devour it too quickly, opting for a delicious smoothie with a wide array of toppings.
This very simple plant based breakfast bowl is what I found myself craving on my way home after a very exhausting 7am total body class the the gym this morning.

Apple and ginger oat smoothie topped with strawberries, chia seeds, sesame seeds and ground coconut.


Apple and ginger is one of my favourite combinations, I topped this smoothie with chopped strawberries - a fantastic source of vitamin C along with chia seeds which are incredible power houses. A spoon of chia seeds has more calcium than a glass of milk, they are also jam packed with antioxidants, fiber, magnesium, zinc AND iron. I love the crunch sesame seeds add, these tiny little gold seeds of joy are also amazing for you. Boasting properties such as calcium, magnesium, iron, phosphorus, Vitamin B1, zinc as well as many more and most importantly report high levels of copper and manganese.

I popped a cup full of oats into the blender, added a cup of rice milk, a chopped apple, teaspoon of ginger, tablespoon of honey and blended up. I poured this yummy mixture into a bowl and topped with strawberries, sesame seeds, chia  seeds and ground coconut. YUM!
