Wonderful Wednesday | # 1 | 2017
Happy Wonderful Wednesday! I can't believe that this is my first WW post of 2017. I've been feeling really under the weather lately, with a flu virus that has lasted well over a month (it's been full on proper flu), teamed with the post Christmas slump and my vow to live a slower life this year, I just haven't found the time to sit down and write about all of the good things. But I'm back, because if there is one thing that instantly puts a little smile on my face it's thinking about all of the things that make me happy. Two hours ago I walked through my front door after a long weekend spent in Cornwall with my other half, family and friends. I haven't slept at all as my coach left Plymouth at 3am and I must say I'm feeling a little emotional having said my goodbyes as well as pretty worse for wear. But for some reason, that little flame of writing inspiration has been lit in the pit of my tummy and from previous experience I know it's always good to get some words down on paper when I feel like this.
Let's get on with the wonderful...
.: Long Distance Relationships. I spent three days with my other half, we literally never left each other's sides. This long distance malarky isn't easy but there are some people that are worth it. They're worth it over and over again and you'd travel the world for them if it meant you could get that one cuddle you really long for. I'm so lucky to have found my special person.
.: Kind Bus Drivers. The lovely coach driver from Plymouth to Bristol. I, of course, cried as I said see you soon to Fraser and as I boarded the coach the driver asked if I was okay and would we be apart for long. He was just so lovely and sometimes all you need is a kind stranger to smile and ask if you're okay. He had the heating right up and I took my boots off and warmed my feet on the radiator. There was also free wifi which was a bonus!
.: A very warm pub. Our local pub in my home town in Cornwall is always toasty warm in winter, it serves amazing local cider and it always feels like a home away from home.
.: Friends and Family. Even though it was a flying visit I managed to pop in and give those special people a squeeze. Copious cups of tea were consumed, I had plenty a cat cuddle as well as many a dog kiss. There's nothing like letting yourself into someones house, shouting "We're here" and them running to put the kettle on. Friends I see once a year, family I rarely spend time with, and yet after all that time apart, nothing ever changes.
.: Pretty Little Liars. Fraser and I have started to watch Netflix together in the evenings even though we live in different countries. We set it up to start on the same episode at the exact same time so that we can, in rather a strange way, spend a little time together, messaging each other about the show and chatting away. I have already watched four or five seasons of PLL but Fray hadn't so I was eager to get him started on it. Not only is it really lovely to be able to do something together, it also makes me take much needed breaks and actually relax in the evening instead of ticking off more jobs on my to-do list which could really wait until tomorrow.
.: Nakd Bars and Nibbles. I've always had a thing for Nakd bars, mainly because it's a sweet treat that I can enjoy, (I can't eat anything with dairy or refined white sugar as it makes me sick) but also because they don't sell them here in Spain so I guess it's one of those things that I can't have which makes me want it all the more.
Anyway, I'm rambling here, Nakd have now brought out nibbles. Oh my goodness gracious me, I am addicted. First off, don't expect them to be crunchy, this is the mistake I made. They're energy ball consistency so pretty soft but they are so tasty. My favourites are the Salted Caramel ones. I've just spotted that you can buy them in bulk on amazon, so guess who's going to be stocking up on payday.
.: My Cats. When I arrived home they came running, rubbing up against my legs, purring and in Katie's case climbing up onto my shoulder because optimum closeness is key. Having a little welcome home party makes all the difference. We are all snuggled on the sofa by the fire and they just seem so happy to have me home.
.: Changing Phone Companies. So last week I gave my phone company a call to see if a different plan was available as I was paying around €70 a month for my phone bill (it's a lot more expensive in Spain). Bearing in mind that was just for the line, texts, calls and data. I don't pay monthly for my actual phone. So I got in touch with them, because I never message anyone via text and rarely make calls, it was all being spent on data my limit was 2GB too! My phone company confirmed that there wasn't a better service available from them so I gave another company a quick call to see what they could offer. 8GB of data, unlimited calls and messages, spotify premium for 6 months all for the grand total of €22. After 6 months it will go up to €44 but they said I can easily cancel before then or downgrade. €44 is still a huge saving compared to what it was before! WINNING!
.: Cornish Views. Yes it was bloody freezing and yes I had to wear six layers every day. Yep it rained on and off for three days and of course it gets people down. But, in my opinion, there is nothing quite as pretty as the Great British landscapes. It must be the good old brit in me, I just love wrapping up warm and going for a wander as the bitter wind hits the little exposed skin you have to offer. There's nothing like the fresh air, seeing farm animals in the fields and country side sunsets.
.: Falling in love, again. I'm beginning to fall back in love with the art of blogging. A while back I decided to give up on my challenge to blog every day for a year as it had become a chore. Now that I have freedom to right how and when I want I find myself coming up with ideas, really mulling over possible posts and projects and delighting in writing once again. Sometimes we just need to take a step back and chill. Quality over quantity, always.
Goodness me that was quite the list wasn't it! I started this post feeling pretty sorry for myself, but after the consumption of two cups of tea and getting all of the happy things down, I'm feeling much more positive and happier. If you haven't tried it yet, I urge you to give it a go. Even if it's just jotting three things you're grateful for on the back of a used envelope, it will really lift your mood.
